'So intimate, just six lovely rooms. Like someone's home, with nice old furniture'. Warm praise brings to the Guide this little town house. 'Enchanting, eccentric, exceptions', said the Tatler, naming it Best Small Hotel 2001. Built as a private residence in 1847 in the centre of old Seville, it is owned by Gonzalo del Rio y González-Gordon of the sherry and gin family (room service includes chilled bottles of Tio Pepe and Gordon's gin with old-fashioned bottles of Schweppes tonic). The bedrooms are off inner balconies leading from a large covered interior courtyard; those at the top have access to the roof terrace. There is an honesty bar in the long first-floor drawing room. Breakfast, served by a white-gloved butler, includes eggs scrambled in olive oil, marmalade made with Seville oranges.
Open: All year. Rooms: 6 double. Air-conditioning. Facilities: Sitting room with honesty bar, breakfast room. Roof terrace. Location: by old Jewish Quarter of Santa Cruz, off Aguillas; near Plaza San Ildefonso. Secure parking nearby. Credit cards: Amex, MasterCard, Visa.
