Small in scale but enormous in charm, Casa Nº 7 has a subtly restrained elegance that epitomises the essential dignity and spirit of Andalucia itself.
If you are planning a visit to Seville and are looking for an award-winning boutique hotel with distinctive decor, historic character, and that is a little out of the ordinary, Casa Nº 7 is the place. Located in the former Jewish quarter of Seville's Santa Cruz neighbourhood and close to sites, shopping, bars, and restaurants, Casa Nº 7 still manages to remain an elegant oasis within the bustling centre of Andalucia's capital.
Casa Nº 7 is the brainchild of Señor Gonzalo del Río y González-Gordon, member of the Gonzale-Byass family. Señor Gonzalo del Río had dreamed of opening a small boutique hotel that would feel to its guests more like a stay in a private mansion than a stay in a public hotel. He searched throughout the Santa Cruz area for what he hoped would be the perfect choice and he came upon Casa Nº 7, then in dilapidated condition. The home was originally built in 1847 and it is now a listed building and is protected by law.
Its restoration was a challenge that lasted four long years but it soon became a labour of love. Señor Gonzalo del Río is a dedicated Anglophile and the aesthetic of Casa Nº 7 is a testament to this fact. He painstakingly restored the building to not only reflect a mid-19th century Andalucian mansion but also to reflect his love for all things British.
Upon entering, the visitor is welcomed by an antique-filled courtyard that is enclosed by a glass ceiling two storeys above. White Spanish marble covers the floors and the stairs while old paintings and prints tastefully adorn the walls. The main floor contains a magnificent drawing room with a fireplace, sofas, and a well-stocked honesty bar containing many products from the family sherry business.
A delicious hot breakfast is also served on the main floor each morning by a butler wearing impeccable livery and faultlessly white gloves. This is one of the many touches that make a stay at Casa Nº 7 so very special. This fine attention to detail is part of the reason that Casa Nº 7 was voted The Best Small Hotel by Tatler Magazine in 2001.
So on your next visit to Seville, be sure to experience the timeless charm of Casa Nº 7. It is an island of tasteful elegance that will keep you coming back year after year.
